Course description

The Business Decision-Making course provides fundamental knowledge of decisions, decision theory, and the decision-making function of managers. The course also introduces learners to decision-making processes, the issue of harnessing collective intelligence in decision-making, and the matter of making effective business decisions. The course strengthens learners' decision-making capacity through practising decision-making methods under conditions of uncertainty and decision-making in situations where one's own decision depends on the decisions of others.

The main content of the course includes:

Chapter 1: Overview of decisions and decision theory

Chapter 2: Problems and problem solving

Chapter 3: Managers and decision-making

Chapter 4: The decision-making process, the issue of uncertainty, and harnessing collective intelligence in decision-making

Chapter 5: Decision-making using the matrix game model

Chapter 6: Effective decision-making

Course requirements

Regulations on eligibility conditions for the final course examination

The attendance score must be 5 or above (in accordance with the University's general regulations).

Method of assessing the attendance score: see Appendix 2, Rubrics 1.

Regulations on class attendance

Students are responsible for attending all class sessions in full.

In the case of absence due to force majeure, students must proactively acquire the knowledge through the materials provided by the Lecturer and other materials required to be read.

Regulations on classroom conduct

The course is conducted on the principle of mutual respect between learners and instructors;

Take full notes and participate in answering questions;

Read the required materials in advance;

Complete homework assignments;

Do not make noise or disturb others, and do not eat during class;

Laptops, tablets, and mobile phones may only be used for the purpose of taking lecture notes and supporting learning; they must absolutely not be used for any other purpose.

Regulations on submitting tests/group assignments

Learners who fail to submit individual/group work as required will receive a score of 0 (zero).

After the prescribed deadline, each day a submission is late will result in a deduction of one point.

Appendix 1. EXAMINATION MATRIX

Weight in the course grade: 50%

Format: Objective multiple-choice examination on computer

Duration: 60 minutes

Number of questions: 40 questions. Each question is worth 0.25 points

Appendix 2. RUBRICS

Rubrics 1. Assessment of the attendance score

Weight in the course grade: 10%

Assessed over 7 seminar sessions.

* Note: 10+ : may be considered for bonus points added to the 40% assessment score when the attendance score is 10.

Criteria for assessing participation in discussion

Rubrics 2. Assessment of the individual test

Weight: 20% (the first component of the 40% assessment score)

Assessed by the number of correct answers

Total number of questions: 20 multiple-choice questions (each worth 0.4 points) and 1 essay question (6 points).

Duration: 60 minutes

Rubrics 3. Assessment of the group assignment

Weight: 20% (the second component of the 40% assessment score)

Assessed by the result of the group assignment; a presentation is mandatory

Learning outcomes and assessment

The automated training management system assesses the level of CLO attainment according to the University's general algorithm. The course learning outcomes are assessed by students and the University after the final course examination.
