Course description

The course Fundamentals of Vietnamese Culture provides learners with basic knowledge about fundamental concepts of culture, civilization, literary heritage, and cultural artifacts; the history of the formation of Vietnamese culture from prehistoric times, through the periods of Chinese domination, the Dai Viet era, and up to the present period; the process of cultural contact and exchange in Vietnam; the cognitive culture of traditional Vietnamese people; the components of Vietnamese culture; the cultural regions of Vietnam; and Vietnamese culture in economic integration.

Course requirements

Regulations on conditions for the end-of-course examination

Students are allowed to take the final examination/end-of-course examination (50%) if their attendance score (10%) reaches 5 points or above (on a 10-point scale).

Regulations on class attendance

Students/learners are responsible for fully attending all class sessions. In case of absence due to force majeure reasons, full and reasonable supporting documents must be provided. Each absence will result in a deduction of 1 point from the process assessment score. Students who are absent for more than 3 sessions, whether with or without reason, will be considered as not having completed the course and must register to retake it.

Students will earn additional points for each constructive contribution to the lesson, which may compensate for the process score, test score, and group assignment score.

Students who do not submit the group assignment will receive a score of 0 (zero) for the final assignment. A group of students who submits late will be deducted 1 point for each day of late submission.

Regulations on classroom behavior

The course is conducted on the principle of respect for learners and teachers. Any behavior that affects the teaching and learning process is strictly prohibited.

Students must attend class on time as prescribed. Students who arrive more than 10 minutes after the class begins will not be allowed to attend the session.

Absolutely no making noise or disturbing others during the learning process; no eating, drinking, chewing gum, or using devices such as phones or music players during class.

Laptops and tablets may only be used for the purpose of taking lecture notes and performing calculations in service of the lecture and assignments; they must absolutely not be used for other purposes.
